Which program for a BlackBird?

The AFS BlackBird is a board range originally developed for downwind sup foil and wing foil. It is also a formidable weapon for wing foil in ultra-light conditions.

The AFS BlackBird is endowed with incredible ability to extract every bit of speed from wave, wind or paddle, to ensure you can help your foil take off at the earliest possible moment.

The shapes and constructions are optimised to not only get you flying quickly, but to ensure you will bounce up again almost instantly, from all but the hardest 'touch downs' thanks to its inherent desire to glide off the water with its very low drag design.

The BlackBird board range are aimed at experienced foiler's, seeking to unlock the incredible world of foiling 'Downwinders', where especially the 6'4" will help enthusiastic riders quickly gain the abilities required to revel in the fluidity and connection every rider quickly discovers, even when starting by riding short distances powered by the winds and waves.

If you are new to Downwinding and can already Wingfoil, why not start in light conditions with small swells, by riding your BlackBird a few hundred meters upwind, gybe and start going broader as you gain in confidence, riding even little swells as you gain you skills, before trying with a Paddle, or even from prone on proper swells with strong winds!!

Our favourite foils for the BlackBird are the AFS Performer 85 or 78 Mast, Performer or Alpha Fuselage (long if you are new to this or short if already adept on waves), Performer front wings with Performer Surf Stabs, or if you can already handle the speed and performance, go for the larger AFS PURE Foils, which are also part of our AFS ADVANCED Range.

Our favourite AFS Wings for these lighter wind adventures are the 5 and 6m WILF's, which are delightfully light and balanced, while having excellent 'pumpability' for early take off.

We can help you build a package tailored to you, or you can of course use what you already have with one of these lovely AFS boards, providing it will let these great boards make the most incredible journeys you are likely to do on the water, part of your life in the future!

Please also note, these boards do not have handles in the underside, which would hugely compromise the performance, and likewise on the deck, where we want you to have complete mobility, without fear of accidentally getting your toes into a recess at the wrong moment!

Can we fit Footstraps?

Absolutely - You can order your AFS BLackBird with, or without Footstrap mounts.

Many 'downwinder's' do not want any form of 'clutter' on the deck, while others love the security of straps, especially when riding with a Wing, so think about this decision, and if unsure, order the one with footstrap mounts - they cost and weigh a little more, but you have the ability to add straps if you wish to.

Constuction:

The AFS BlackBird is full carbon and made in France. We mainly use triaxial carbon fibre, making the board stiff, light and responsive. We use High density foam for extra stiffness.



What is included?

The BlackBird is sold with the ¾ length EVA Deck Pad fitted, but is otherwise 'naked' to give maximum strength with minimum weight.

The board is supplied ready to use, but without Footstraps/screws, Bag and Leash - These are available for separate purchase (make sure if you want to use straps, that you order the Blackbird with Footstrap Inserts).

Please remember to use the pressure vent screw (Breather Screw) correctly. It must be tightened before going on the water and should be undone at least half to 1 turn when you have finished using it.

It is vital that the pressure in all top quality sandwich construction boards is able to equalise to accommodate variations caused by temperature, radiant heat and altitude!

Our correctly engineered Aluminium Breather Screw is by far the best way to ensure the board does not suffer serious damage due to 'over pressure' of the internal structure. We invariably find that if you do not have a large flat blade screwdriver, in the UK a 20p piece is an excellent tool for closing and opening this screw without damaging it - if using the 20p method, close it tightly, so the 'O' ring seals well

Warranty:

AFS ADVANCED products (Blackbird, Pure Foils, Performer UHM Masts) come with a 3 Year Warranty, subject to our normal fair wear and tear policy.
